Inetum, the European leader in digital services and solutions, is a founding partner of SISTEMIC, a project aimed at fostering a new generation of talented women in the field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). As the first partner and founding sponsor of this new project, Inetum is pursuing its commitment to increase the number of women in scientific and digital careers and education.

Women at the heart of the 4th industrial revolution

Already committed to the Women in Africa Foundation to promote women's entrepreneurship on the African continent and, more globally, the contribution of digital technology as a lever of positive impact complementary to its ambitions to empower its teams, Inetum continues to support the actions led by Aude de Thuin on a new project.

SISTEMIC is an initiative that came into being when three women got together – Aude de Thuin, founder of the Women's Forum for the Economy and Society, Angélique Gérard, emblematic figure of the Free/Iliad group, and Léna Touchard of X-HEC Entrepreneurs. Three generations of women committed to promoting the role of women in science and technology.

Born out of the urgent need to build a new generation of talented women by mobilizing them as early as secondary school and directing them towards STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) expertise, the SISTEMIC project is an ecosystem of inspiration, training, support, recruitment and networking. “We noticed several symptoms: ingrained gender stereotypes, lack of self-confidence in girls, low interest in STEM subjects among girls, lack of hands-on experience in STEM etc. We therefore decided́ to take action by creating an unprecedented ecosystem of inspiration, training, recruitment, networking and support to foster connections between young girls, their parents, teachers, economic players and recruiters. Our action aims to contribute to the vitality of our economy and to the challenge of a dual transition – both digital and environmental,” says Angélique Gérard, Chairperson of SISTEMIC.

The first programmes are starting up with free MOOCs designed by the “STEM Academy” (SSE training organization created by the founders of SISTEMIC) to train and support diverse female audiences, from girls as young as 12 to women looking for a new career. According to the founders of SISTEMIC, “the fourth industrial revolution cannot happen without women to develop the technological and scientific innovations of the future”. This observation is largely shared by Inetum, which has long been committed to promoting tech professions among women, and therefore naturally chose to support this new project.

Encouraging tech careers for women

Inetum is proud to be the first partner and founding sponsor of SISTEMIC to bring its business expertise and participate in its mentoring programme. This support is naturally in line with Inetum's desire to raise awareness of IT and digital professions among young people and to support the training and inclusion of women in professions related to digital technologies. According to the IESF (Ingénieurs et Scientifiques de France) observatory, women represent less than a quarter of the 34,000 engineers trained each year in France, while at the same time the country has an annual deficit of at least 20,000 engineers. Inetum is convinced that the promotion of scientific careers from secondary school onwards constitutes a real opportunity for the emancipation of young girls and is a necessary step in the development of the digital sector in France and worldwide.

As a long-standing sponsor of Women in Africa for the past 6 years, Inetum reinforces its commitment to a positive dynamic to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics among women.
