Job description:

The person in this role will perform level three support to all databases and respective servers used by the

Custody department. Ensure best practices are in place from development to production. Constant

coordination and discussion within house or third-party developers for upcoming developments and ongoing

improvement opportunities.

Primary responsibilities will include:

Projects

• Gather and document technical requirements for system enhancements and updates.

• Drive the change request process for system updates, ensuring alignment with business and technical

needs.

• Lead technical testing efforts to validate changes and ensure smooth production deployment.

• Own and execute assigned initiatives, from launch through to completion, while tracking progress.

• Monitor and adhere to project deadlines, proactively escalating risks or delays.

• Identify system gaps, inefficiencies, or weaknesses, and propose actionable improvements.

• Enforce and communicate project standards, ensuring consistency across deliverables.

• Prioritize and manage assigned projects independently, taking full ownership of tasks and outcomes.

• Liaise with stakeholders (e.g., business teams, developers, vendors) and provide timely status updates.

Database Support

• Troubleshoot and resolve live system issues, including:

o Application performance bottlenecks.

o High memory/cpu utilization.

o Query and application tuning.

• Assess alternative solutions and workarounds to minimize operational impact during incidents.

• Provide Level 3 support: Perform root-cause analysis and implement permanent fixes for recurring

issues.

• Track and document issue resolution progress, ensuring transparency and follow-up.

• Monitor database infrastructure:

o Availability and disk space utilization (drives, file systems).

o Alert logs, backup logs, and network logs for anomalies.

• Support global teams (US, India, Portugal) by addressing database-related inquiries and incidents.

• Manage application databases, including:

o Software installation and patch management.

o Data import/export and ETL processes.

o Custom report development (ad-hoc or scheduled).

• Perform routine DBA activities, such as:

o Backup/recovery management.

o User access and security maintenance.

o Database health checks and proactive tuning.

 

Qualifications

• Thrive in a fast-paced global environment, adapting to evolving priorities and cross-functional

collaboration.

• 5+ years of professional experience as a Database Administrator (DBA), with hands-on expertise in Oracle

12c/19c (required).

• Experience with other database systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, MS SQL) is a plus.

• Performance optimization skills: Proven ability in index tuning, query optimization, and

troubleshooting database performance issues.

• Database lifecycle management: Experience with data cleanup, historical data purging, and automation.

• Analytical and creative problem-solving: Ability to assess change requests, issues, or challenges, propose

solutions, and translate technical concepts into schematics, diagrams, or documentation for discussions

and reporting.

• IT infrastructure involvement: Contribute to planning, sizing, and implementation of IT projects.

• Fluent in written and spoken English (required). 

 

Technical Skills:

  • Experience as a Database Administrator (DBA), with hands-on expertise in Oracle 12c/19c
  • Performance optimization skills: Proven ability in index tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting database performance issues
  • Database lifecycle management: Experience with data cleanup, historical data purging, and automation.
