Inetum teams up with France Immersive Learning and Nexus consortium to build first open-source learning metaverse

Press release

Release date :

Inetum, a leader in digital services and solutions, is announcing its partnership with France Immersive Learning and the Nexus consortium. The aim of this project and consortium, a DEFFINUM prize-winner, is to provide a virtual environment engine for educators to easily create and deploy immersive experiences for educational purposes. Inetum and France Immersive Learning will present Nexus at Learning Technologies France in Paris, Porte de Versailles. on 1 and 2 February.

An open, sovereign metaverse for knowledge transmission

While big corporations and tech giants are equipping themselves with the means to build the metaverse where our digital activities will take place in the future, organisations in turn are expressing an increasing interest in immersive devices for their production and training needs. The Nexus consortium, led by the France Immersive Learning Association (FIL), was born from the desire to build the foundations of sovereign and ethical collective virtual universes that will be dedicated to lifelong learning: a space in the free and sovereign Metaverse. The consortium, made up of FIL, Alstom, Nantes University, ENSAM, CESI, UniLaSalle University, and Grand Est educational region, created Nexus to be an open source engine of virtual universes in which to create educational metaverses to meet the challenges of self-produced content, accessibility, interoperability, security and sovereignty.

Inetum brings both its UMI3D technology and Intraverse platform to the partnership. UMI3D is an open-source technology for creating interactive, interoperable virtual worlds.  Intraverse, on the other hand, is a solution for building and rolling out immersive experiences.  It provides technologies to reproduce social and physical interactions with the world in which the user is immersed, on any type of device (virtual-reality headset, computer, tablet, etc.). Thanks to the partnership and its technologies, educators will be able to focus on what matters – teaching content.

The partnership makes sense for the international Inetum Group, which has been working on UMI3D for several years now. The collaboration will also enable Inetum to accelerate the development of educational uses for its Intraverse. Inetum FabFab teams are committed to innovation for educational purposes so that companies can provide their employees with disruptive, innovative learning offers in terms of form as well as substance.

Nicolas Dupain, President of France Immersive Learning, says, "The strength of this technological partnership lies in our expertise combined with that of a market leader such as Inetum. Together we will launch an efficient and complementary solution to address organisations' growing desire to use immersive technologies for new training methods that will rekindle the pleasure of learning and transmitting knowledge."

"With this strategic partnership, Inetum is pursuing its ambition to innovate on new use cases,” explains Jean-François Gaudy, Corporate Vice President and Chief Innovation & Digital Officer at Inetum. “Inetum’s innovation teams work daily with those of Nexus to co-develop and propose an effective solution that will bring new educational methods.”
