The OCRE (Open Clouds for Research Environments) initiative, managed by Géant, aims to make cloud technology easily accessible to research and educational institutions across Europe. Belnet, the Belgian National Research and Education Network (NREN), is a key local partner in this framework, ensuring that Belgian institutions (from universities to public organizations) can fully benefit from the cloud services provided.
In partnership with Microsoft, Inetum will deliver innovative cloud solutions and value-added services to support these institutions and accelerate cloud adoption across Belgium. By combining Microsoft Azure’s cloud infrastructure with Inetum’s expertise in innovation and adoption, the partnership will provide seamless access to cloud services. This collaboration will help institutions fully use Microsoft Azure’s potential, ultimately improve research capabilities, drive digital transformation, and foster long-term technological growth.
Supporting research, government, and the public sector
The framework offers tailored solutions for three key sectors. Research and educational institutions, such as universities and research centers, will be able to leverage cloud services for secure data storage, advanced computing, and collaboration on large-scale projects. Government bodies, at both federal and regional levels, will have access to scalable cloud technologies that enhance operational efficiency, enabling them to better support public institutions and services. Finally, the broader public sector will benefit from cloud infrastructure that modernizes operations, fosters innovation, and reduces costs, ultimately driving more effective public services.
A vision for digital transformation
“Our collaboration with Géant, Belnet and Microsoft perfectly aligns with The Inetum Way, which has the objective of delivering ‘Digital Impact – but faster, easier, and for the good of all’. We believe cloud technology has the potential to transform institutions across Belgium by driving innovation and accelerating digital progress. Through this collaboration, we are helping our customers to use cloud solutions that accelerate research, foster collaboration, and boost productivity. Looking ahead, we are excited to continue our work with them to make cloud adoption more accessible, effective, and impactful for all sectors of society”, Jo Leemans, Director Technologies at Inetum.
"The transformative power of Azure Cloud, Microsoft AI, and Security platform technologies is unmatched in today's rapidly evolving business landscape. We are confident that Inetum, as a key services partner for the Microsoft workloads included in this framework agreement, will drive significant digital impact and innovation for the customers, in close collaboration with us. We are looking forward to working with Inetum to develop intelligent and secure solutions that will set new standards for our joint customers", Barbara Van Den Haute, Public Sector Director, Microsoft Belgium.
